The Keeper of the Gate

Not every member of the tribe was trained to tell the stories of old. Not every story was allowed to be recited at the gatherings.

A ruler dies—or is killed.
The history changes.
The Tellers would adapt or be Tellers no more.

Not every story was carved into the stones.
Not every detail was captured on a scroll.
Not every scroll was stored.
Old scrolls areremoved to make way for the new.
Or scraped and reused.

There are only so many hours in a day, and only so many scribes.
(none of them work long hours as before)
Not every scroll will be copied…

A printing press is not cheap, nor is parchment, nor is ink.
If you print this, you will be called a heretic and you will burn.
The King is pleased with your words…won't you be his guest?
He has, for you, prepared a room in the Tower.

I can't print this …
Have you not heard of the Unities?
This will never make money.
The public doesn't want this.

There have always been, there will always be, gatekeepers.

You are the first gatekeeper.
If you don’t write the words,
If you don't work the words,
None of the future obstacles matter.

(Now go do what you need to do.)
