Aspects of the Site

Small. Personal. Simple.
Not gonna worry about writing brilliant essays (unlikely to begin with), just gonna write the words a bit, edit a bit, accept feedback, re-write a bit…see where that gets me. Not even gonna worry about overusing words every now and again.

Text only (mostly) to keep the focus on words.
I won’t be cluttering up the pages with stock or AI or self-created images. Yes, I realize that means the world will be mostly deprived of my art…you can thank me later.

No major social media links.
This is an easy one since on most days I don't feel all that social.

No AI.
I expect their will eventually be an article I write about AI, and if I remember, I’ll put a link to it here. In the meantime, let’s just say I have never used a grammar checker (possibly that is obvious), and my spellchecking consists of looking for underlined red letters. Heck, I don’t even like the idea of a thesaurus and so have never really used one.

To be clear: it is not that think AI will take over the world. Ignoring everything else about it, I find the return on the resources needed to fuel AI … concerning, especially since the poor will suffer the brunt of the effects.

Friendly. Courteous.
I try to be conscious of everything I write, and so avoid the glib use of certain words, such as hate in the phrase “I hate pineapple on my pizza.” Also, I prefer to keep my public-facing words free of profanity (at least of the coarser variety). This does not mean I succeed, so please correct any of my oversights.

Free.
This is the easiest way to make sure I am not overvaluing anything I write.

Further Site Details

– The host is Neocities.

– I wanted to create my own simple HTML/CSS site—and I did—but it was too simple, and I kept spending far too much time fixing things I broke by doing what I thought was a simple change. So I hired Denny (see below) and my life is simpler, calmer, and the twitching has mostly subsided.

– I like FOSS, the Fediverse, and have completely removed Google and Microsoft from my routine. Apple will be next, but that will be a slower process, mostly because that’s my current hardware. But Linux is in the future, installing it on an old Mac mini and making sure I have everything I need working, which really isn’t much.
